In 1926, Aunt Irene (Ludwig) and Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) took a trip to the Great Salt Lake. They appear to have traveled with another couple I can’t identify. The car is packed! Here they make it to Nevada, for sagebrush, and to Elko.
They pass Echo Lake and Donner Lake on the way to Lake Tahoe.
More from Donner Lake and Echo Lake on the way to the Salt Beds of Utah and Salt Lake City
Bingham Mine Utah. Largest open faced copper mine in the world. Unidentified motley crew of boys–did they still have child labor in those days?
Around the Great Salt Lake. Lagoon Park and Plunge. The first log cabin in Utah.
Salt Lake City. The Mormon Tabernacle, Temple, and the city capitol.
Aunt Irene (Ludwig) and Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns), and their traveling companions, in Liberty Park, Salt Lake City. The Utah Capitol. Also a couple of photos from near Tahoe.
Sundry Photos. The Salt Beds. Rocks between Tahoe and Reno. Folsom. And an unidentified boy named Teddy at the Lagoon near Salt Lake.
In 1929, Aunt Irene (Ludwig) and Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) took a trip to San Diego, it seems with another couple (who seem not to be the Boyds of other journeys). In these photos they are at Balboa Park and San Juan Capistrano. Aunt Irene and Uncle Pete in the first photo; the other couple in the second, and Aunt Irene and the other fellow in the third.
The Boat to Catalina, with the San Pedro lighthouse in the distance. Aunt Irene in one photo, and she and Uncle Pete in the other.
Avalon and the harbor, and the dance hall at Catalina.
Balboa Park and Tia Juana. I believe that’s Uncle Pete with his traveling companion.
I believe the following pages are all of one trip, called the trip to Canada, in July 1931. It seem Aunt Irene (Ludwig) and Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) went with the Boyds, Ernest and Eva on this trip. Three photos here are of the Columbia River in Oregon, including Horsetail Falls.
The Columbia River at the border with Oregon and Washington; the Oregon-Washington ‘Bridge of the Gods’ at Cascade Locks; and Multnomah Falls, Oregon
In the Redwoods of California. Aunt Irene’s picture in the third photo has been cut out. With the Boyds in the three photos.
Crater Lake, the Columbia River, and the Cascade Locks, the Boyds and the Burns
Maybe the Multnomah Falls, identified in other photos in this series, with Eva Boyd in the center photo.
Crown Point on the Columbia River, and Longview Bridge, Washington, with Ernest Boyd in two of the photos.
Oregon! Mt. Hood and the Oregon Caves. Looks like Uncle Pete in one photo with Eva Boyd, and maybe Uncle Pete and Ernest Boyd in another.
‘An American Oasis’ looks like a liquor store in British Columbia. Also, the Longview Bridge and the Oregon Caves.
At the Bridge of the Gods on the Columbia River, near Cascade Locks, and along the Columbia River. Aunt Irene (Ludwig), Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns), and Eva Boyd in the first photo; and Ernest Boyd, Aunt Irene, and Uncle Pete in the second.
Chuckanut Drive, Washington, the Oregon Caves, and north of Longview, Washington
Long Barn in the snow in Jan 1932. There is a Long Barn in Tuolumne County which had a lodge built in the 1920’s. This might be where they went on winter holiday. Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) is in one photo with a child I can’t identify; nor can I identify the other man with two children in the other photo.
Long Barn in the snow in Jan 1932. Uncle Pete (Cletus Burns) and Aunt Irene (Ludwig) are in the group photo. I don’t know the identities of the other 3 adults or 3 children.
